Repeat Prescriptions Requests

Patients who take regular medications and need to renew their supply must hand in the counterfoil of their previous prescription to reception.

Alternatively you can order here online. New users are required to complete a simple registration.

Please note, due to patient confidentiality and data protection issues, we regret that we cannot accept telephone repeat prescription requests without prior arrangement with our GP.

If you think you may need a prescription medicine which you have not had before or was prescribed to you previously as a one off, please make an appointment with the doctor.

The practice offers pharmacy first service to patients who would not want to waste time waiting to see the doctor for prescriptions for common elements such as coughs and colds.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

The current prescription charge is £9.65 per item (£17.20 per pair of elastic hosiery).

Prescription prepayment certificates can save you money

• A three-month PPC is £31.25 and could save you money if you need more than three prescribed items in three months.
• A 12-month certificate is £111.60 and could save you money if you need more than 12 prescribed items in a year.

PPCs are available by 10-monthly direct debit instalment payments. The prescription prepayment certificates allow anyone to obtain all the prescriptions they need for £2 per week.

Repeat prescriptions can now be ordered online, and can save you having to make a special journey to come to the surgery. Ask one of our reception staff to help you sign up for this service. Alternatively if you do not have internet access, you can contact your nominated pharmacy to request for your repeat prescription, or come into the surgery to complete a repeat prescription form.

When requesting a repeat prescription please try to avoid our busiest times, usually first thing in the morning and Friday afternoons. You must allow at least 48 hours for your prescription to be ready, they cannot be done on the spot.

Remember to order repeat medication well before you run out and allow plenty of time for bank holidays such as Easter, Christmas and New Year.
